(Skull & Bones Portrait from Yale University. Man left of the clock is George H. W. Bush)
do you really think the proposed $700 billion dollar economic bailout has the people’s best interests in mind? this is one last robbery before the train leaves town for good.

my pops showed me cool hand luke when i was a kid, and it remains to this day one of my favorite movies of all time. the opening image of paul newman stumbling down the street, lopping off parking meters with a pipe cutter struck me as the the epitome of anti-establishment. yet throughout his whole career, and even into his reign as a salad dressing mogul, paul newman remained a completely generous philanthropist, putting him in an eschelon of “cool” that transcends the screen into the real world.
R.I.P. PAUL NEWMAN – THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING.

in “the biggest bank failure in history,” JP Morgan has acquired the now-defunct Washington Mutual. I think they picked up their entire assests for about $47.23, a ‘93 corolla with 150,000 miles, and a bunch of those free game stamps from subway. if i wasn’t busy working, i could’ve at least competed in the auction. my ‘87 fleetwood would’ve counter-balanced not having any cash to trade. and i turned in my subway stamps. anyway, i greatly look forward to racing to a Chase branch soon to deposit the $11 i just got from the coinstar machine to cover the gas i pumped at 3am last night.
good times.
UPDATE: dang. failing business can be good for the bosses. check out how WashingtonMutual CEO Alan Fishman made about $20 MILLION in under twenty days as the bank thrift collapsed. read story here.

the legendary earl palmer just passed away at his home. one of the most recorded drummers of all time, and without whom there would be no funk as we know it. i had the pleasure of seeing him perform in his later years, and he tore it up without missing a step. rest in peace, earl. thanks for everything.
